August 2006

I had my wisdom teeth removed today, which basically means I’m confined to the bed in pain and nauseous while Christine tortures me with horrible movies.

Make it stop.

Yesterday was my birthday and I spent it having fun my way all day.
First I drove to Northern Tool and bought a new angle grinder and oxyacetylene cutting goggles…Rock On!
Then I met up with Philip and Zach and we drove to Galloway’s 4WD Center in Richfield to pickup a spare tire for Philips 1974 CJ-5.
This was my first trip to Galloway’s and it was fitting that I made the pilgrimage on my birthday.

After pricing my future tires and loading up Philip’s new spare we came back home.
I spent the next few hours making grunting sounds as I took my rear bumper off my TJ and tried to see if I could modify a Rodeo Draw-Tite trailer hitch to fit my Jeep.
It was more trouble than it’s worth, so the hitch will soon be posted on the For Sale area of the NC 4×4 forum or I’ll cut it up and try to do something else with it.

After Jeppin’ it up for most of the day Christine and I met Audrey and Jimmie at The Penguin for some big block burgers and chili cheese fries.

Then we stumbled across the street to Thomas Street Tavern which was overly crowded with a sea of polo shirt wearing, double gun fingering, stupidly smiling guys and the moronic girls that were trying to impress.
We didn’t stay long…
Then, off to Jimmie’s house to rock out to Flogging Molly and playing your favorite game and mine; Catch Phrase.

Two thirty was a little late to get home for an old married couple, but it was a pretty sweet day.

I’m taking welding courses in an effort to be able to fix almost anything and today I actually welded for the first time. Although my eyes feel like I’ve been walking on the beach all day I feel pretty good about it. After about two hours I had a pretty good bead going. I still wish I was taking MIG instead of SMAW, but luckily I get to train on the MIG a little every class and knowing how to stick couldn’t hurt since I plan on buying an under the hood stick welder for my Jeep.

Ah, man stuff.

not me

Elvis the cat has lost some weight lately so we took him to the vet and discovered he has diabetes. It’s easily manageable with two insulin shots a day and some senior cat diet food.

No more fried peanut butter and banana sandwiches Elvis.
